In the morning, I potter in the kitchen of the cottage making a fry-up for us. Omar is sat at the little table looking at his phone.

I put a plate of bacon, eggs, toast, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes in front of him and sit down next to him with my plate.

He sighs and slips his phone back into his pocket.

“Was that your other girlfriend?” I tease. It’s a running joke between us that Omar is in a relationship with BBC News. He’s always checking it and getting the alerts. He likes to know what’s going on in the world. At all times, apparently.

But this morning, he doesn’t take the bait and instead takes a grumpy bite of toast and stares at his food.

“What is it?” I ask.

“It’s nothing.”

“Omar,” I say in a low tone of voice and drag out his name for a long time.

He sighs. “I didn’t want to mention anything. I don’t want to ruin our holiday.”

“But…”

He pulls out his phone and taps in his pincode.

“Is it BBC News? Has she dumped you?” I tease.

He smirks, and finds what he’s looking for and hands me his phone.

It is indeed a news article.

I read the headline: ACTOR TOM DARLINGTON COLLAPSES AT STAR-STUDDED EVENT AND HOSPITALISED FOR EXHAUSTION

I frown at Omar. I’m not sure why he’s showing me this.

“Check out the statement from his brother.”

I scan the article. Apparently, Tom was at a party in London last night with other celebrities and media in attendance. And, according to ‘eyewitness accounts’, received a phone call at around 9.45pm and collapsed immediately after. I get to Angus Darlington’s statement. It reads:
